North Dakota lawmakers reject sports betting proposal

A bill that would have placed spots betting on the ballot for November 2026 was rejected by the North Dakota House. The proposal lost by a vote of 70 to 24. Legislators last contemplated a referendum in 2023. Voters in North Dakota would have had the opportunity to determine whether or not professional and collegiate sports betting should be legal throughout the state.

In North Dakota, sports betting is currently restricted to casinos and tribal lands. In 2019, 2021, and 2023, attempts to legalize sports betting were unsuccessful.
