Norway may introduce DNS blocking to restrict offshore intervention

By implementing DNS filtering, Norway intends to prevent local customers from accessing the services of offshore gambling websites. This policy has been discussed for more than a decade and could now actually pass. Anette Trettebergstuen, the current minister of culture, supports the initiative and wants to outlaw offshore sites by 2024. Unlike her predecessors, Trettebergstuen feels DNS blocking would make it very difficult for businesses to connect with local customers. Many people think that the DNS restriction will shield Norsk Tipping, Norway's gambling monopoly, from overseas rivalry. This fall, a new law will be submitted, and if adopted, it might go into effect on January 1st, 2024.
