Nottinhham council accountant jailed for $1million fraud to fund gambling addiction

After stealing nearly £1 million to feed his addiction to gambling, an ex-local council finance officer was sentenced to prison.

A colleague noticed irregularities in the financial systems, which led to the discovery of the fraud.

He was placed on indefinite leave and subsequently fired from the council following an internal probe.

He had enabled 86 fraudulent transactions totaling £934,343.30, according to the police investigation.
