Ontario iGaming overshadowing sports betting

According to recent statistics, Ontario residents are betting more overall on online casino games than on sports. According to iGaming Ontario data, wagers made by Ontarians in the second quarter of 2023 totalled CA$14 billion. Of that sum, $2 billion was spent on sports, while almost $11.6 billion went to casinos. Peer-to-peer poker was said to have contributed the remaining $350 million. Given that the Ontario government formally started the legal and regulated iGaming business in April 2022, the data are starting to provide a picture of the competitive market for online casinos and sports betting. In Canada, it was the first province to legislate online gambling.
