A referendum asking state voters to approve the expansion of gambling to the Osage River in Lake Ozark has been reintroduced by a county judge in Missouri for the Nov. 5 ballot.
For now, the Missouri and Mississippi rivers are the only places in the Show-Me State where riverboat gaming is available. Additionally, Amendment 5 would eliminate the state's current 13-to 14-casino license cap.
It will be expected that the Ozarks casino opposition campaign will be funded by the Oklahoma Osage Nation. The federally recognized tribe is still battling to get approval from the federal government to erect a tribal casino near Lake of the Ozarks.
