Petersburg reaches vital benchmark for casino project

With the state Lottery Department's approval, Petersburg's bid to host a casino has advanced significantly. The body authorized Petersburg to host a casino and gave the go-ahead for a municipal referendum. The Petersburg Circuit Court must give its approval for the next step in the procedure. The referendum is scheduled to take place on November 5th, if all goes according to plan.

Assuming voter approval in the fall referendum, the first phase of development would entail spending $142.63 million to construct a temporary casino that would open for business a year after a successful vote.
