Philadelphia Phillies baseball player suspended for violating betting policies

Major League Baseball on Tuesday announced the suspension of five players for breaking the league's gambling regulations, including a minor league player for the Philadelphia Phillies.

A San Diego Padres infielder was given a lifetime ban for betting more than $150,000 on baseball, while four other players were given year-long suspensions. During the time he was an injured MLB player on the Pittsburgh Pirates roster, there were wagers placed on the team.
