There are endless tales about reading tells to determine your opponent's poker hand, but how much of it is myth and how much reality? From exaggerated eye tics to micro-expressions, exaggerated hand gestures to obvious posture shifts, which clues actually pan out at the table?
In my experience, very few tells are clear cut. Nerves and mannerisms differ widely between players, making it hard to categorize tells overall. Some players exhibit "tells" whether they have a strong or weak hand, so reads must be combined with strategy and odds. Overthinking tells can distract from the bigger picture too.
Still, spotting major behavioral changes in opponents can be useful, especially with loose aggressive players who rarely bluff. Subtle clues add up over time, indicating when to tighten up or apply pressure.
What's been your experience with tells at the poker table? Any reliable tells you've observed? Share your stories and let's discuss - the more knowledge we can pool, the better our games!
