In a statement, the authority stated that it had strict procedures and safeguards in place to identify and look into anomalies in prize claims and that it took these cases very seriously. Following a joint investigation by the Texas Lottery Commission and the Hearne Police Department, which revealed that the suspect had falsely claimed a prize exceeding $5 million, the arrest was made.
