Premier League clubs set to decide on voluntary ban of gambling shirt sponsors

The teams in the Premier League have declared that they will vote on a voluntary ban on front-of-shirt gambling sponsors, currently worth a total of £52 million, on Thursday. Eight Premier League teams have betting companies as their main shirt sponsors, with Everton and West Ham having the most lucrative contracts for a combined £10 million per season. The league's shareholders are expected to approve the proposal, with the condition that gambling companies may act as sleeve sponsors. The government is avoiding passing legislation that would make all gambling advertising illegal by doing this. Prior to the ban's implementation at the start of the 2026–27 season, clubs would have three years to renegotiate contracts with non-betting sponsors.
