President Lula approves provisional measures for Brazil sports betting launch

Provisional Measure No. 1,182 has been approved by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, establishing rules for sports betting in Brazil. Lula's revisions and reforms will be up for discussion in the Brazilian Congress for 120 days. The provisional measures, or Medida Provisória in Portuguese, are requests to Congress that can be expedited from the Brazilian President.The National Secretariat for Games and Betting, which would be supervised by the Ministry of Finance, is described in full in the first amendment. This institution will be in charge of establishing the technicalities and licensing procedures for the Brazilian gaming business, among other regulatory measures.
