Gutshot straight draws in 2-7 single draw poker require careful consideration and discipline. Holding 4-5-6-8-9, you have an open-ended gutshot straight possibility, but drawing to two cards is difficult. Check the flop if possible to gauge the strength of opponents' hands. If checked to, make a small bet to maintain equity. On the turn, check again unless an inside straight card improves your odds. Only call raises as a semibluff unless you hit your straight. On the river, give up unless you improved. These draws are often good for only a few bets, so preserve your stack by folding if opponents continue raising you. Play gutshots for a quick hit or to steal one round of bets, but be willing to muck when you miss to limit losses.
