Proposed NC regulations limit the scope of fantasy sports by removing props.

On Tuesday, regulators in North Carolina convened to discuss and present the first set of regulations for sports betting. This initial draft outlines the standard rules and definitions related to sports betting, while also placing specific emphasis on the way fantasy sports will be defined moving forward.

The new regulations provide clear distinctions between props-style fantasy and traditional fantasy sports. It is explicitly stated that props-style fantasy, which involves users selecting whether a player will surpass or fall short of a specific statistical milestone, does not fall under the category of fantasy sports. Additionally, the regulations require props-style fantasy games to be played between peers.

At present, daily fantasy sports in North Carolina remain unregulated, although they are currently operational within the state. Multiple platforms offer picks-style fantasy contests, allowing users to participate in these games.
