Romania announces new strategy to tackle gambling harm

A new plan to combat addiction, including the negative effects of gambling, has been announced by the president of Romania. The eight regional centers for addiction treatment proposed by the decree, which was drafted by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice, would be located in each of the eight administrative regions of the nation.

The plan aims to address the lack of adequate treatment for addictions to drugs, alcohol, and gambling, especially in younger people. NGOs and private clinics currently provide the majority of treatment options. Although it does not yet have a timeline, the project will be overseen by the Ministry of Justice.
