When the ball lands on zero, casinos offer "en prison" which imprisons your lost bet on the next spin. Use en prison when you're willing to lose that bet amount. But avoid en prison when you feel lucky, want higher odds, or seek a bigger payoff. Simply take your chips off the table and place a new outside bet with better odds. Best to avoid en prison unless you're content to break even. H

Typically only available on European roulette tables, the "en prison" rule in roulette is a good rule for the player. When a player lays an even-money wager and the ball lands on the single zero, the rule takes effect. Because it restricts their alternatives and may be perceived as a disadvantage for the player, some players prefer to avoid it.
