Running Aces finance officer says historical horse betting is a lifeline for Minnesota race tracks

The state capitol is in disarray over historical horse racing, also known as instant racing, in which wagerers select a horse in an online race that has already been held.

The two horse racing facilities in the state, Canterbury Park in Shakopee and Running Aces in Columbus, claim that historical horse racing is a vital source of income for them. Attorneys for Minnesota's tribal nations argue that slot machines—which the tribes alone are allowed to operate in their casinos—and historical horse racing are too similar.
