A key industry star witness was absent from the hearing of the US Senate Judiciary Committee on whether government monitoring of the legal sports betting market is necessary. The current version of the SAFE Bet Act would prohibit all television sports gambling advertising between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. if it were approved by Congress and signed by the president. Additionally, "affordability checks" on high-volume bettors and those looking to place significant wagers would have to be performed by sportsbooks. Credit cards would be prohibited, and daily deposit caps would be implemented.
