SCOTUS Ruling Slows Seminole Tribe Sports Betting Plans

On October 12, 2023, the Supreme Court of the United States issued an order to halt the ruling made by the District of Columbia Circuit in the case of West Flagler Associates, Ltd. vs Haaland. This order will currently prevent the Seminole Tribe of Florida from allowing individuals located anywhere in the state of Florida, to engage in mobile sports betting. The Seminole Tribe and the state of Florida have agreed upon a gaming agreement between the tribe and the state, in accordance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA). This agreement grants the tribe the authority to accept mobile sports wagers from players located within Florida, as these bets would be considered valid on Indian territories where the tribe's servers are situated.
