Senators push for legalized sports gambling in Georgia without referendum

Supporters of a different sports gambling bill in Georgia say they think it is possible to lawfully establish betting under the Georgia Lottery Corporation's jurisdiction without putting the matter up for a statewide vote through a constitutional amendment.

The Senate bill that would create 16 sports betting licenses was approved by the Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee on Tuesday. The bill is headed to the Senate for additional discussion, but given the repeated failure of attempts to legalize gambling in 2023, its future looks uncertain.
