September storm rattles Macau casinos

Early in September, Macau prepared for a significant storm, which led to the local government ordering its six casino operators to temporarily close their resorts.

Typhoon Saola, a potent and erratic tropical cyclone that made landfall in the Philippine Sea in late August, recorded sustained winds of more than 120 mph. Before the storm made landfall on Friday, September 1, the local government of Macau ordered the majority of non-essential businesses, including its numerous casino resorts, to close.

Closing the casinos for the storm makes sense so employees and players aren't at risk from the bad weather. Safety has to come before profits. It would be a mess if high winds blew through the casinos with everyone inside. At least this way they avoided any damage or problems popping up during the typhoon.
