Shareholders urge casinos to re-assess indoor smoking

In the fight against smoking bans in casinos, a new tactic has emerged: shareholder voting.

The proposals that Boyd Gaming, Bally's Entertainment, and Caesars Entertainment's shareholders are putting on the ballot at their respective casinos will compel them to investigate the expenses of allowing smoking indoors and whether going smoke-free could result in cost savings.

When state law permits, the three businesses together run 75 casinos in the United States that allow indoor smoking. In about 14 states, smoking is allowed inside of commercial casinos.
