Should we avoid unpopular lottery numbers?

Lottery numbers traditionally considered “unlucky” tend to never win. But are there actually numbers that come up less frequently than others, indicating they are the truly unpopular picks players avoid? Do strange or unusual number combinations hold more promise than easy picks like 7, 14, 28, etc.? Can winners be found where few people look?
