Poker’s about skill and enjoyment, not turning a profit. The games are designed so the house will always win in the long run. If you play tight, smart poker, keep costs low, and get real lucky, you might break even some months. But winning consistently? Not likely.

Money comes and goes at the tables. Focus on improving your game, reading tells, thinking three moves ahead. Appreciate the players you share a table with, whether as opponents or as allies in a hand.

The money will follow if the cards go your way. And if they don’t, you simply buy in again next session. The joy is in the gameplay itself. People come to poker dreaming of carrying away a stack of chips, but the friendships and memories you make are what last.

So sit down, ante up, play your best game and forget about how much you win or lose. Poker should never be more than a fun social pastime or thrilling game of wits. Approach it any other way and your luck will soon run out. But keep it lighthearted? Poker will enrich your life for years to come.
