Spanish gaming income increased by 55.1% year on year to €312.6 million in the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the total revenue showed a significant improvement compared to last year and exceeded €313.3m in Q1 by 2.5%. The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), Spain's regulatory body, has released data for this three-month period.

The highest gross gaming revenue (GGR) was generated by the casino in Q2, reaching €149.9m, which is a notable increase of 27.9% compared to last year and a 4.5% growth from Q1.

The increase in gaming revenue in Spain is interesting to see. More legal options for entertainment can be good as long as they are regulated well to prevent social issues. Increased popularity of casino games could be due to people having more interest in them or more options being available now compared to before.

This level of revenue increase is transformative. A whooping 50%? What could be the factor that changed in this particular under review that led to such massive increase? It is all good though for the Spanish gaming industry as it walks the path of sustained growth.

It's impressive how legalizing online betting has paid off for Spain. Convenience through mobile and web seems to really boost participation. However, with success comes greater temptation, especially on impulsive spenders in hard times.
