The city has been buzzing with powerful gaming lobbying this week as Canberra considers a ban on gambling advertising. The politicians have been under pressure from large media corporations, and Tim Costello, the Alliance for Gambling Reform's chief advocate, met with both Prime Minister abanese and Leader Peter Dutton to discuss how far the government ought to limit gambling advertising. The Dublin-based subsidiary of Sportsbet, Flutter Entertainment, revealed part of the solution when it released its first-half results late yesterday. It said it had increased its Australian advertisements in the six months leading up to June 30 by spending an additional £10 million (A$19.5 million) on marketing in order to "defend our supreme position."
