Star Entertainment swerves casino license suspension for now

Given its recent revenue reports and new tax obligations, Star Entertainment's decision to keep its casinos open for business during the holiday season in Queensland is a hugely significant development. While the Queensland Attorney-General will permit it to maintain its license in the interim, Star shouldn't become complacent.

After a trial in which it was found guilty of numerous offences, including money laundering, Star faced the possibility of having its license revoked. Queensland decided a year ago that the company did not qualify for a license, but allowed it a year to clean house.

The year is nearly over; December 1st is the cut-off date. Queensland has granted Star some leeway, presumably due to their satisfaction with the progress it has made.
