strong enforcement of gambling in video games

The Albanese government has made significant changes to the gaming industry by announcing that video games featuring simulated gambling will now be exclusively for adults. In a recent gathering of the Standing Council of Attorneys-General, all states unanimously agreed on implementing reforms that impose age restrictions on games containing gambling-like elements. These updated guidelines will be enforced from September of next year, allowing the industry sufficient time to adapt to the new regulations.

Making sure gambling content is limited to adult games only makes sense. Still, some games have gambling as a very small optional side activity so they shouldn't necessarily be rated as adult games because of it. The industry and regulators will need to thoughtfully define where exactly to draw the line to achieve the goal without unintentionally hurting some titles.
