Sweden proposes gambling tax increase

The Swedish government is considering implementing a tax increase starting on July 1, 2024. This decision is expected to generate an extra SEK540.0m (£39.3m/€45.5m/$48.4m) in annual tax revenue.

According to the government, this tax hike is justified by the belief that the market has reached a stable state since its re-regulation in 2019. In that year, Sweden opened its online gaming market, enabling operators to obtain licenses and legally provide gambling services within the country.
