Tabcorp hit with another fine for violating betting regulations

Because Tabcorp disregarded the established rules of engagement, it is in trouble once more with Australian gaming regulators. As September came to a close, the gaming operator was fined in New South Wales, making two fines in the nation in less than a month.

The company's marketing practices, which have included sending unsolicited marketing materials to non-users in violation of regulations, are at the heart of the complaint. But the punishment it will receive is hardly more than a slap on the wrist.

Regulations are there to protect customers, so companies should make more effort to follow the rules. At the same time, minor first-time violations don't necessarily mean a company has bad intentions. As long as Tabcorp learns from this and puts better systems in place to comply going forward, the issue may not be too serious.
