Tabcorp penalized for accepting in-play illegal bets

By accepting in-play sports bets online, Australian operator Tabcorp violated Australia's Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and was fined $171,647.

Despite Australia's ban on in-play betting, Tabcorp placed 854 in-play wagers on 69 different tennis matches between April and October 2023, according to an investigation conducted by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

By restricting the availability and frequency of betting during live events, the Australian Communications and Media Authority's in-play betting regulations seek to reduce the negative effects of gambling.
