Thai serial killer gets death penalty for poisoning to fuel gambling addiction

In the first of her 14 murder trials, a Thai woman who is believed to be the worst serial killer in the nation was given the death penalty.

Prosecutors claim that the suspect borrowed money from her victims to finance her gambling addiction before murdering them and taking their valuables. She allegedly targeted one person, but she survived.

Within 30 minutes of consumption, the fast-acting poison cyanide can be fatal. It can cause heart attacks by depriving the body's cells of oxygen. It can be hard to find because it leaves the body so quickly.
