Thailand finance ministry to lead study on casino gambling

With the Finance Ministry spearheading a significant investigation into the possible legalization of casino gaming, Thailand is taking a revolutionary step toward addressing the hotly contested issue of gambling legalization.

The analysis of casinos suggests taxing gross gaming revenue at a rate of 17%. If this were to happen, the tax regime would become one of the lowest in the region.

The licenses could be renewed every five years after their initial 20-year term.

Investments of at least $2.7 billion would be necessary for larger casino complexes.
