The Q3 2023 statistics provided by the Spanish Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling show both positive and negative trends in the Spanish gambling market. While the overall gross gambling revenue (GGR) decreased by 3% compared to the previous quarter, it still demonstrated a substantial increase of 24% compared to the same period last year.

Casinos emerged as the biggest revenue contributors, accounting for 52% of the total GGR at €160 million. This sector's performance is noteworthy, considering the continued growth and resilience it has shown despite the challenging circumstances of the ongoing global pandemic.

Sports betting, on the other hand, experienced a quarterly decrease of 15% in GGR, generating €113 million in revenue for Q3. However, it still managed to maintain a positive annual growth rate of 23%, which is quite impressive. The slight dip in revenue for the quarter might have been influenced by various factors such as the slower sporting calendar during that period or other market-specific factors.

Poker also demonstrated positive performance, with a quarterly GGR increase of 4% to reach €27 million. An annual growth rate of 22% highlights the continued popularity of this particular form of gambling in Spain. The sustained growth in the poker sector can be attributed to various factors, including the increased availability of online poker platforms, improved player experiences, and the growing interest in poker tournaments.

Overall, despite the slight dip in GGR for the Spanish gambling market during Q3 2023, the industry has shown remarkable resilience and growth compared to the same period last year. The performance of casinos, sports betting, and poker indicates that the Spanish market continues to evolve and adapt to the changing dynamics. It will be interesting to see how these trends progress in the coming quarters.
