It is commendable that the Netherlands is taking steps to tighten the rules for online gambling. The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has identified a crucial issue, which is the lack of prompt action by providers to prevent addiction. By amending the Responsible Gaming Policy Rules, the KSA is addressing this concern.

Requiring providers to monitor signs of gaming addiction within an hour is a significant improvement. Early detection is key to preventing and addressing gambling-related problems. By doing so, providers can intervene and offer support to affected individuals in a timely manner, potentially reducing the harm caused by excessive gambling.

Additionally, the requirement for providers to contact players depositing over €700 monthly for proof of earnings is a sensible measure. This rule serves two purposes: it helps verify the player's financial capability to engage in this level of gambling and acts as a safeguard against potential money laundering activities.

Introducing a €300 limit for individuals aged 18-24 is a proactive step towards protecting a vulnerable age group. Young adults often have limited financial resources and may be more susceptible to the risks associated with online gambling. This limit serves as a responsible way to curb excessive gambling habits and reduce the potential negative impact on this specific age group.

Overall, these changes aim to establish a duty of care for online gambling providers and prioritize the protection of players. By holding providers accountable and encouraging responsible gambling practices, the Netherlands is taking a proactive approach to ensure the well-being of its citizens in the realm of online gambling.
