Slot machines have become a staple in casinos worldwide, but their origins are often overlooked. The first mechanical slot machine, known as the "Liberty Bell," was invented by Charles Fey in 1895. What's fascinating is that the Liberty Bell was poker-themed. It featured symbols of playing cards, such as spades, diamonds, hearts, horseshoes, and Liberty Bells.

The Liberty Bell slot machine had three spinning reels, each with five symbols. To win the highest prize, players needed to align three Liberty Bell symbols, which paid out 50 cents—a substantial sum at the time. The success of the Liberty Bell machine laid the foundation for the modern slot machines that have evolved into the complex, digital games we see in casinos today.
