To the best of my knowledge, almost all games that eventually evolved into the modern version of poker started coming into existence only after 1800s. Games like Three Card Monte with slight variations have been around for a long time but games specifically involving betting on the best poker hand were seemingly non-existent before mid 19th century when Poker as we know it today properly came into being. I could be missing something here though. Would appreciate if anyone can shed more light on this.
