The rise of online poker, slots, and sports betting has significantly impacted brick-and-mortar casinos. While casinos still attract tourists and locals for the full "gambling experience", much of the regular gambling now happens on phones and laptops in pajamas!
I've lost count of the nights I'd head to the casino after a few drinks, throw down money at the slots or tables with confidence born of alcohol and bad judgment. Now I can do the exact same thing from home, often with better odds and lower costs. My gambling habit has probably saved me money, but my casinos sure haven't noticed!
Casinos that once felt lavish now seem dingy. Why deal with traffic and crowds when I can gamble, eat, and lounge in comfort? Still, I miss the adrenaline of a big win on a casino floor. Progress marches on though, so casinos had better improve their games and amenities fast or risk becoming relics of simpler times. The future is here, whether they're ready for it or not!
