Poker is a game of skill and chance. To play well you need to calculate odds and strategy. When you make a bet you calculate the chances of winning based on the community cards and your own cards. This is called pot odds. You compare the pot odds to the odds of your hand improving to win the pot. Certain hands have a better chance of improving, so you aim to play those hands. You also consider the likely hands of opponents to figure out their betting strategy. All this math and calculation helps you make the best decision on whether to call, raise or fold for each round.
