For the first time in the history of the American lottery, California players had two opportunities to become billionaires in less than three weeks thanks to the projected $1.35 billion prize for Friday night's Mega Millions drawing. Officials from Mega Millions announced the winning Mega Millions digits for the drawing on Friday, August 4, just after 8 p.m. The Mega number was 20, while the other winning numbers were 11, 30, 45, 52, as well as 56. For states that employ the multiplier, the Megaplier was 2X. The winner must pay federal taxes, but only 10 states—including California—exempt lottery winnings from state income tax.
