The state-operated lottery in North Carolina has accomplished a groundbreaking feat by surpassing $1 billion in annual net profits. This remarkable achievement is attributed, in part, to the immense popularity of colossal, nationwide jackpot drawings. On Wednesday, officials from the North Carolina State Lottery Commission disclosed that the fiscal year ending on June 30 yielded net earnings of $1.015 billion. This figure stands $85 million higher than the previous year's earnings, surpassing the projected target of $885 million outlined in last year's state budget. Remarkably, the lottery's sales shattered records, amassing an astounding $4.3 billion during the last fiscal year, exceeding the previous year's sales by a staggering $456 million.
