Illinois Governor J.B Pritzker wants to raise the tax rate on sports betting by a lot. Right now, sportsbooks in Illinois pay 15% in taxes, but Pritzker wants to increase it to 35%.
He thinks this will bring in an extra $100 million in taxes for the state next year. If this happens, Illinois would have one of the highest sports betting tax rates in the country. But, it still needs approval from lawmakers.
