The authorities have put forward a suggestion to augment the tax rate imposed on the total earnings from gambling activities in Sweden. If given the green light, the rate will surge from 18 percent to 22 percent starting from July 1, 2024. The authorities predict that this alteration will lead to an additional SEK540m in yearly tax income. Justifying the proposal, the authorities stated that they are taking this action at present due to their belief that the market has reached a state of stability subsequent to the introduction of regulated online gambling in early 2019.
