The UK government could force iGaming operators to pay for gambling harm research

The UK government is considering imposing an obligatory 1% tax on the profits of iGaming operators in an effort to address worries about problem gambling. The initiative is presently being discussed by government representatives and industry stakeholders. It was suggested in the updated gambling white paper.

Based on 2022 revenues, a 1% levy might bring in £100 million if it were to be implemented. The money raised would go to the National Health Service, which would use it to finance studies and programs that promote responsible gaming.
