The UK government has pledged to modernize land-based gaming.

DCMS Secretary Stuart Andrew has expressed the government's commitment to revitalize and protect brick-and-mortar gambling establishments as a primary goal of an upcoming Gambling Review.

The announcement was made by the Minister while addressing an audience of key figures in the British leisure and arcade industries at the 'Bacta Annual Convention 2023' - an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the trade association representing the British amusement and gaming machine sectors.

Commencing his speech, Andrew acknowledged that DCMS recognizes the significant economic contribution made by arcades and amusement venues, which generate a combined economic turnover of £1.6bn and sustain numerous employment opportunities throughout the United Kingdom.

Moreover, British arcades play a crucial role as employers within local communities, highstreets, and coastal towns. However, the past decade has presented British gambling establishments with various economic hurdles, including the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and escalating energy costs. "
