The UK Government Reaffirms Its Support for the Arcade and Amusement Industry

The imminent release of the government’s response to the initial round of consultations regarding the review of the Gambling Act 2005 has been confirmed by Stuart Andrew, the UK Secretary of State for Sport, Gambling, and Civil Society. During a conversation with representatives from the arcade and amusement sector, Andrew stressed the government’s recognition of the sector’s crucial economic contributions.

He expressed gratitude for the active participation of stakeholders in the consultation on land-based gambling, emphasizing the importance of formulating policies based on evidence. Andrew acknowledged the significant role played by Bacta in representing the sector and providing invaluable insights. He also highlighted the sector’s economic contributions, stating that it generated a collective turnover of £1.6 billion and supported numerous jobs across the country.

Furthermore, Andrew recognized the challenges faced by the sector due to COVID-19 and rising energy costs, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting sustainable operations. He added that the modernizing measures outlined in the White Paper were essential for fostering a healthy and customer-focused market. Lastly, he emphasized the benefits of ongoing collaboration between the sector and the UK government.
