Inter Milan defeated Benfica 2-0 in the second half of their Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku. This victory placed Inter Milan on track to reach the last four for the first time since they won the competition in 2010.
Alessandro Bastoni, the center back, sprinted up the left side and sent a perfect cross that Barella headed home hard at the back post in the 51st minute. Barella was unopposed as he rose to meet the ball.
After Var referred a handball by Benfica captain Joao Mario for review by English referee Michael Oliver, who awarded the penalty after viewing the video monitor on the side of the field, substitute Lukaku then converted a penalty in the 82nd minute.
