The Perak police detained three individuals as part of Op Soga IX for allegedly participating in internet wagering on Qatar World Cup games.
According to Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the Perak police commander, the suspects, who range in age from 20 to 50, were taken into custody in the districts of Ipoh and Hilir.
He claimed that after their detention, the police also took two cellphones and RM900 in cash.
"JOL, an application that enables users to place bets online, is used for the betting activity.
He stated in a statement today that "the suspect merely needs to make best on the application by buying a smartphone credit top-up straight at the locations that supply the top-up."
