Times Where Splitting Aces Might Have A Small Advantage

While splitting aces is generally not advised in blackjack, there are rare occasions where it could give you a small advantage. When the dealer's upcard is a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, splitting aces and drawing additional cards gives you four chances to hit a handy total close to 21. If the dealer busts after you split, that's a double win. However, the potential extra gain is marginal and with a house edge of around 0.5%, the odds still favor the casino in most situations. Therefore, only exceptionally experienced players should consider splitting aces, and then do so judiciously.

In blackjack, splitting aces is usually advantageous because each ace has the potential to give the player a strong hand of 21. The advantage could be reduced, though, if the game's rules restrict the player's options following a split or reduce the payoff for a split hand with aces.
