Tropicana Las Vegas declares closure pending public stadium funding

When $395 million in public financing for a new stadium for the Oakland Athletics baseball team is approved, the Tropicana Las Vegas casino resort will close, regional casino operator Bally's Corporation informed its employees on Monday. As expected, the agreement calls for Bally's to demolish the Tropicana, the third-oldest hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. However, the business also promised to erect a brand-new 1,500-room casino hotel on the Bally's-named land. According to the culinary union, impacted workers will have access to free job training, ongoing benefits throughout any shutdown, seniority rights of first access to job opportunities, and placement in alternative jobs as they become available.
