UK National Lottery saves historic pier from crumbling

A historic Victorian pier has been saved from the edge of destruction thanks to the UK National Lottery. Since its opening in 1867, Weston-super-Make'sBirnbeck Pier has facilitated visitors' access to Birnbeck Island for 150 years.

Fortunately, the Old Pier's restoration has now received a £10 million donation from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This will enable the pier's current owner, the North Somerset Council, to make necessary repairs and maintain the 160-year-old pier's legacy.
